Solar Powered Systems: IREC-UPC JRU

Description

Joint Research Unit between the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) is a strategic collaboration focused on the development of renewable technologies and solar energy systems. This unit is dedicated to research, development, and innovation in materials and advanced processes for advanced photovoltaic technologies.

  • Photovoltaic technologies based on chalcogenides: Development of new materials and advanced technologies for photovoltaic integration.
  • New device architectures for advanced PV integration: Innovation in device design to enhance the efficiency and adaptability of photovoltaic systems
  • New methodologies for advanced device and process characterization: Use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize research and development processes.
  • The main objective of the JRU IREC-UPC is the design and development of new materials and processes for advanced thin-film photovoltaic technologies.
  • The aim is to create industrially compatible, sustainable, and cost effective solutions that enable advanced photovoltaic integration, including integration into buildings and products (BIPV, PIPV).
  • In the long term, the goal is to contribute to strengthening Europe’s leadership position in R&D on emerging solar energy technologies.
  • Laboratories for characterization and manufacturing of photovoltaic materials.
  • Infrastructures for integration and testing of photovoltaic systems.

National and international.
